February 6, 2007 After one season at Georgia Perimeter College, freshman Martin Nunez has opted to forgo the remaining of his college eligibility to play professional soccer. Nunez was selected in the second round by Miami-FC in the United Soccer League First Division College Draft held January 24. The USL’s first division is the highest level of professional soccer in its league. Its two-round draft featured only college seniors, college players with no remaining eligibility, and college and high school players who will give up their remaining college eligibility. Miami FC made Nunez the 22nd selection in the second round. “We lose the top striker in the country,” said GPC head coach Marc Zagara. “He will do well playing professional soccer.” In his only college debut, Nunez, a National Junior College All-American, topped the nation with 30 goals scored, placing him second at Georgia Perimeter in the number of goals scored in a single season. He also finished the season with 17 assists. GPC completed the season 23-1-1 and earned its third consecutive Georgia Junior College Athletic Association Region XVII conference title. The Jaguars also finished fifth at the national championship tournament this season, after winning the title in 2005. November 27, 2006 Three Jaguars honored as NJCAA All-Americans Georgia Perimeter College freshman Martin Nunez and sophomores Aaron Ingham and Chris Brugger were recognized by the National Junior College Athletic Association as All-Americans for their accomplishments this season. As a first team selection, Nunez topped the nation with 30 goals scored, placing him second at GPC in the number of goals scored in a single-season. He also finished with 17 assists. On the season, Ingham a second team All-American, recorded 105 saves on 117 shots on goal with a 0.570 goals against average this season, which ranks him ninth in the nation among goalies. Brugger, who was also named to the second team, helped lead a GPC defense that allowed only 12 goals and recorded 13 shut-outs. Georgia Perimeter finished the season at 23-1-1 and placed fifth at the NJCAA national tournament after winning the title last year.

tournament in Tyler, Texas, Sunday. November 6, 2006 Brugger receives player of the week honors Georgia Perimeter College defender Chris Brugger, a native of Churchville, N.Y., was named the National Junior College Athletic Association men’s soccer Division I player of the week during the week of Nov. 1. The sophomore midfielder is one of four GPC players to receive such recognition this season. He has helped the top-ranked Jaguars secure two victories and the Georgia Junior College Region XVII championship last week. Brugger, a returning starter from the 2005 National Championship team, is the anchor of a defense that has allowed 16 goals this season and compiled 12 shutouts and a 21-0-1. The first team All-Region selection helped the team to back-to-back NJCAA Southeast District titles with a 5-0 win over Wallace State (15-3-1) Saturday. On the season Brugger has 10 assists and one goal.

Georgia Perimeter wins title Georgia Perimeter (21-0-1) advances to the eight-team national tournament in Tyler Texas, beginning Nov. 16. It marks the third consecutive trip to nationals for the Jaguars, who were runners-up in 2004 and won the national championship last year. GPC finished the current season ranked No. 1 in the NJCAA poll. “It is good to back to Tyler and defend our title,” said GPC head coach Marc Zagara. Martin Nunez also added a goal and four assists for the Jaguars. Alejandro Ruiz-Rumph scored a goal and Chris Ugarte of Duluth had an assist. Freshmen accounted for all goals and assists. Nationally, Nunez and Hernandez are ranked 2nd and 4th, respectively, in scoring among two-year colleges. With a combined 54 goals, the duo has accounted for almost half of GPC's 114 total goals this season. Freshman Lucas Rogue leads the nation's two-year colleges in assists with 21 and ranks 25th in scoring. The Jaguars have outscored their opponents 114-16, its largest point spread margin in school history. GPC goalkeeper Aaron Ingram, a two-time All-Region selection, stopped all 8 shots on goal by Wallace State (15-3-1) and recorded his 12th shut-out this season. Ranked fourth nationally in goalkeeping, the sophomore keeper has given up only nine goals in 1,625 minutes, stopping 87 of 96 shots on goal for a .498 goals against average. Ingram and GPC's defense shut down Wallace State's high-scoring duo, Michael Gallacher and Justin Pino, ranked fifth and seventh in the nation.
GPC reached the district championship by
defeating Young Harris College 5-0 in the Georgia Junior College Athletic
Association Region XVII championship Oct. 29. The Jaguars finished the
current season ranked No. 1 in the NJCAA poll. Freshman midfielder Clotaire Joseph struck early for
the Jaguars in the 33rd minute on a pass by Heber Hernandez for
one of his two assists. Jamie Saenz and Martin Nunez also found the inside
of the net to give the Jaguars a 3-0 half-time lead. In the second half, Christian Vallejos scored on a penalty kick, while Adrian Brown connected with Hernandez for the Jaguars’ final goal. Aaron Ingham, a two-time GJCAA All-Region selection, had six saves and recorded his second shutout of the tournament against Young Harris and his 11th shutout overall. On the season, Ingham has given up only nine goals in 1,535 minutes. He has 79 saves on 88 shots on goal with a .528 goals against average, which ranks him sixth-best in NJCAA Division I. With the win, the Jaguars extended its conference
winning streak to 39 consecutive victories, which spans over three seasons. For their accomplishments this season, the Jaguars were awarded 11 players on the GJCAA All-Region team, the most ever in the program’s history. Nunez, the 2006 GJCAA Player of the Year, led the way as the top player in the conference with 67 points on 28 goals and 11 assists, which also ranks him second in the nation. Hernandez, Ingham, Chris Brugger, Vallejos and Abdifatah Hassan rounded out the first team, while Marcelo Aguirre, Ugarte and Adrian Brown were second team selections. Hernando Quintero and Alberto Chamarro received honorable mention votes. The freshmen duo of Nunez and Hernandez accounted for almost half of GPC’s 109 total goals this season. Hernandez is ranked second in the conference behind Nunez and eighth nationally with 57 points on 22 goals and 13 assists. The Jaguars have outscored their opponents 109-16, its largest margin of wins and losses in school history. Lucas Rogue, who leads the nation in assists with 21, is currently third as GPC’s single-season assist leader behind Luis Campo, who set the single-season record with 26 assists in 2004. Georgia Perimeter (20-0-1, 12-0) will host Wallace State Community College, the Alabama Community College Conference winner, in the NJCAA Southeast District 10 championship game on Saturday, Nov. 4, at 2:30 p.m., on GPC’s Dunwoody campus. The winner will advance to the national tournament in Tyler, Texas.

Nunez, who is ranked second in the nation, leads Georgia Perimeter with 60 points on 26 goals and 11 assists, while Hernandez, ranked No.10, has scored 51 points on 21 goals and nine assists. The duo has scored more than half of GPC’s 93 total goals this season. The Jaguars have outscored their opponents 101-16, its largest margin of wins and losses in school history. Freshman Lucas Rogue who leads the nation in assists with 20 is currently third as GPC’s All-time assist leader behind Luis Campo who set a single-season record with 26 assists in 2004. Goalkeeper Aaron Ingham recorded his ninth shut-out against Andrew and his 0.598 goals-against average ranks him sixth in the nation. The Jaguars will defend its GJCAA conference tournament championship title, hosted by Darton College in Albany, Georgia, Saturday, Oct. 28, at 8 p.m., in the semifinal game against the winner of the Oct. 25, play-in match between South Georgia College and Truett McConnell.

points on 21 goals and 10 assists. The duo has scored more than half of
GPC’s 87 total goals this season. Goalkeeper Aaron Ingham recorded his eighth shut-out against Truett. Ingham’s 0.640 goals against average ranks him ninth in the nation. With one regular season game remaining on the road against Andrew College, Saturday, Oct. 21, at 2:00 p.m., the Jaguars are ready to defend its Georgia Junior College Athletic Association Region XVII conference tournament championship in the semifinal game on Saturday, Oct. 28, at 8 p.m., against the winner of the South #2/North #3 play-in match.
