Bruno
Kalonji
Bruno Kalonji begins his first year as
head coach of the Georgia Perimeter College women’s soccer team. He
replaces former head coach Jessica Wheeler.
A native of Zaire, Kalonji has played
soccer around the world, competing in Sweden’s Gothia Cup and the
Manchester Cup in England. He participated at the Division I and II
levels in Romania.
At Stone Mountain High School, Kalonji
stood out as a student and athlete in soccer, wrestling and
cross-country. When he graduated, he was honored as Athlete of the Year.
Kalonji began his career coaching youth at
the YMCA, the Georgia Football Club, the Georgia Soccer Association, the
Atlanta Youth Soccer Association and the Stone Mountain Youth Soccer
Association. At 20 he became an assistant soccer trainer at Piedmont
College.
He spent a year coaching at Meadowcreek
High School, where he helped the team make it to the playoffs for the
first time in 20 years. Then he coached the boys and girls for two years
at Shiloh High School. He joined Wheeler’s staff in 2005 and served as
assistant coach at GPC for three years. In addition to his
responsibilities as head coach at GPC, Kalonji is currently training the
boys and girls at Druid Hills High School.
Kalonji lives in Stone Mountain, Ga. with
his wife, Andreea, and their son, Kalan. In his spare time, he enjoys
playing guitar, reading and practicing soccer.
Franklin Lawson enters his tenth year as assistant coach of Georgia
Perimeter College women’s soccer program.
A native of New Jersey, Lawson was a
second team All-State player at Cedar Ridge High School in Old Bridge,
New Jersey. He attended Belmont Abbey College in North Carolina, where
he played soccer and earned a bachelor’s degree in accounting.
Lawson was invited to the Squaw Valley
Olympic training camp for the 1976 Olympics, where he had the
opportunity to train with legendary coach Walt Cheswick. He also played
in the ASL, MISL, USL, and SISSL professional soccer leagues.
Currently, Lawson is the founder and
director of Levelfield Coaching Methods, Inc., and director of coaching
and player development for the Tucker Youth Soccer Association.
Borfor Carr broke the record for most career goals at Central Gwinnett High
School. He was courted by MLS teams and has been contacted by top Romania
teams Dynamo and Steaua for tryouts in 2009. Given his unique gifts with a
soccer ball, Carr brings a wide range of tricks and attacking skills to the
Jaguars. He served as assistant trainer for Druid Hills High, helps Franklin
at TYSA and assists Kalonji at Gwinnett Soccer Association.
Shawn Wash played for the Richmond Strikers Soccer Club in Virginia, winning
various honors, and participated in the Virginia State Olympic Development
Program. He attended Chowan College and played professionally as
goalkeeper in the USISL and A-League. He served as staff coach at the
Premier Soccer Academy, Chattanooga, Tenn., and as soccer director and
director of coaching at Decatur-DeKalb YMCA/Dynamite Soccer Club. He was
head boys coach at Renfroe Middle School and assistant coach at The Paideia
School and Woodward Academy. He has coached various select/club teams at
Inter Atlanta FC and GSA.
