    HISTORY

Since its inception in 1983 as a private, non-profit organization, the Georgia Perimeter College Foundation has had one goal – to serve, support and promote the students, faculty and staff of Georgia Perimeter College.

The Foundation Trustees manage the Foundation assets and help raise private support for Georgia Perimeter College. The Foundation provides student scholarships based on both need and academic achievement, supports student programs, funds academic initiatives, and allows GPC to provide professional growth opportunities, awards and incentives for outstanding faculty and staff.

WHY THE NEED FOR PRIVATE SUPPORT?

In higher education today, state funds go only so far toward the cost of maintaining Georgia Perimeter College’s high quality standards. This means that many important programs need the help of private support for funding, in order for the college to be less reliant on state funds.

Private support comes primarily from five sources: GPC (and DeKalb College) alumni, GPC Faculty and Staff, corporations, philanthropic foundations and friends.

The GPC Foundation works hard to create and strengthen corporate and community partnerships.  Such partnerships allow the Foundation help enhance academic programs such as the Wachovia Joint Enrollment Book Scholarship Program and  the PREP Program and community events like the annual Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Birthday Celebration, which is attended by nearly 7,000 people.

The Foundation welcomes tax-deductible gifts of cash, securities, real estate and life insurance policies from individuals and corporations. Also, the Foundation staff will work with individuals to establish memorial funds or to set up charitable trusts or bequests. Every bit of participation is vital to the continued growth of our College, which is now the third largest in the state.
