Choosing a career
When you were little, you decided what you wanted to be by the
occupations you were familiar with firefighter, ballerina, teacher.
Making this decision now is no different you must become familiar with
the variety of careers available in an assortment of fields in order to
make the best decision. This is called career exploration and is crucial
to making informed decisions. Begin by looking at career literature in
books and on the Internet. Talk to professors in your field. Take part
in internships and volunteer experiences. When you have narrowed your
list down, call people in that profession to interview them about their
jobs. Look for related professional associations and request literature
on the field. Compare the career to what you found during your personal
assessment is it a good match? Check out some of these websites and come
in to the Advising & Counseling Center for help in putting it all together.
