Measure Success by the Beaker
Chemistry is the center of all sciences. Virtually everything you touch, taste or smell is made of chemicals.

Why Study Chemistry: Studying chemistry gives you the tools to understand the world around you: How does ozone protect us from the sun? What makes hot sauce hot? What causes snake venom to be poisonous?  Just what are calories – and why do they make me gain weight?

Chemical scientists who found the answers to these questions have educated us about our surroundings and made our lives safer and longer. Today’s students might discover a breakthrough in medicine or in our energy challenge.  At GPC, students learn from an award-winning faculty in classes that meet the requirments of four-year universities.

“The Chemistry class really changed my views on college, influenced my choice of major, and made me excited about what the future holds for me.”

Emily Fancher, GPC Alumnus and former Honors Program Student

Kary Mullis, 1966 Georgia Tech Chemistry major, received the 1993 Nobel Prize for developing the PCR (polymerase chain reaction) DNA amplification technique seen on TV shows such as “CSI.”  What will you do?
