SECTION 400 - STUDENT AFFAIRS
403 APPEALS
PROCESS FOR RESIDENCY CLASSIFICATION
PROCEDURE
Georgia Perimeter
College is required, under the guidelines established by the Board of Regents
of the University System of Georgia, to determine the residence classification
for fee payment purposes of all applicants and students of Georgia Perimeter
College. Students are responsible for
notifying Georgia Perimeter College of incorrect residence classifications and
will be liable for additional fees.
I. Students
who are classified non-resident by the College, but who later claim to qualify
as legal residents, must file a “Petition for In-State Tuition” form along with
necessary supporting documents with the Campus Registrar's office. The Campus Registrar’s office will review
and change, if necessary, the residency classification. They will also notify the students of the
outcome of the petition.
II. The next
line of appeal will be with the Residence Classification Committee. In order for a student to initiate this part
of the appeal process, the student must file a Notice of Appeal with the
Registrar of their campus. This notice
shall clearly state the applicant's name, address, Social Security number, and
a brief explanation of the basis for appeal and shall be filed no later than 15
days from notification of denial. A
Residency Appeal Packet consisting of all related documents will be
created. The student will be notified accordingly. The committee will meet each semester. The
submitting Registrar will act as the representation for the student’s
appeal. The committee will
consist of the Campus Registrars and a Business Manager from one of the campus
locations. The Director of Enrollment
Management will serve as ex-officio members.
III. The final line
of appeal may be directed to the President of Georgia Perimeter College, within
15 days of the final decision of the Residency Classification Committee. The Chair of the Residence Classification
Committee will be responsible for forwarding the Residency Appeal Packet, along
with committee proceedings, to the President for review.
