The Board of Regents of the University System of Georgia sponsors a program under which Georgia residents may qualify for scholarships at institutions of higher education in the University System. Each institution handles its own applications. Recipients are selected by the College subject to final approval by the Board of Regents.

Any full-time, degree-seeking student who is a resident of Georgia may apply. The student must be in the upper 25% of his/her class and must have a determined need for financial assistance. An entering freshman must have a predicted college grade point average (based on high school average and SAT scores) which will place him/her in the upper 25% of his/her class.

The amount of each individual scholarship is determined by financial need as demonstrated by the Financial Aid Form which must be filed. The maximum award is limited to $500 per year for students attending a two-year institution. Scholarships are granted on a one-year basis, but may be renewed each year providing the student remains academically qualified and shows continuing need.

Regents Scholars sign an agreement to work in the state at an occupation for which they are qualified educationally, one year for each $1,000 received. If the student is unable to fulfill this agreement, he/she is expected to repay the full amount with interest at a rate of 3% per year.
