Before you Apply
Study abroad is one of the most rewarding experiences a college student can have, but it does take careful planning in order to complete all the steps necessary to ensure that your preparations run smoothly. The CIE recommends that students begin the process of applying for a program no less than one semester in advance for summer programs. Semester programs often require quite a bit more time to plan, so getting started up to a year in advance is highly recommended.
Select a Program (If program already selected, skip this step)
- Visit http://www.gpc.edu/gpcglobe/sta to review available courses, program prices, and departure dates
- Contact the program leader or the GPC study abroad advisor with questions about the program
Meet with a Financial Aid Advisor (If you do not plan to use financial aid, skip this step)
- Contact any GPC Financial Aid Advisor to discuss how to use financial aid towards your study abroad program.
- Meet with a financial aid advisor
- Complete the student Budget Worksheet
- If you are coming from a school other than GPC, and will apply to a GPC study abroad program, please read the follwoing information about Transient Students and Financial Aid http://depts.gpc.edu/~finaid/transient.htm
Research Scholarships (If you do not plan to use scholarships, skip this step)
- Visit http://www.gpc.edu/gpcglobe/paying for a list of scholarships that GPC students can apply towards the cost of a study abroad program.
- Meet with a study abroad advisor for tips for applying for scholarships
- Scholarships often have application deadlines in advance of application deadlines for a program. Be sure to make note of the different deadlines.
- Please note that program payments must be made on time and in full, regardless of when or if you expect to receive scholarship funding.
Applying to a GPC Sponsored Program

Review the eligibility requirements and application deadlines. (Requirements vary depending on the program sponsor)
- Print out and complete the [application form].
- Pay the $250 deposit to hold your place on the program, at the Student Accounts Office on any GPC campus. [deposit form]
- Participants must select at least one 3 credit hour class, two 3 credit hour classes is highly recommended.
- Application forms can also be picked up at the Center for International Education on the Clarkston campus. The CIE is here to assist you with your application. Please contact the study abroad advisor if any questions arise.
- The CIE will enroll you for your courses. Tuition will be assessed for the summer semester.
- Non-GPC students must apply for transient admission in order to participate on a GPC program. [transient admissions information].

Applying to a European Council Program (England, France, Germany, Russia, Ireland, Spain)
- Review the eligibility requirements and application deadlines. (Requirements vary depending on the program sponsor)
- Select at least one 3 credit hour class; GPC recommends that participants select two 3 credit hour classes, including one morning class, and one afternoon class.
- The CIE will enroll you for your courses. Tuition will be assessed for the summer semester.
- Complete the application form located at- www.valdosta.edu/europeancouncil/joom/images/stories/Files/appform2012.doc, then print out the application and bring it to the Center for International Education to obtain a “European Council Representative” signature. The CIE will retain a copy of your application and fax your application to the European Council for you.
- Pay a $200 deposit to hold your place on the program by visiting http://www.valdosta.edu/europeancouncil/joom/, locating the program to which you are applying and following the “Pay Now” link. Both consecutive installments must be made using this link.
Applying to an Asia Council Program (China, South Korea)

Review the eligibility requirements application deadlines. (Requirements vary depending on the program sponsor)
- Select at least one 3 credit hour class; GPC recommends that participants select two 3 credit hour classes from the AM1, AM2, or PM1 class sections. (The CIE will enroll you for your courses. Tuition will be assessed for the summer semester.)
- Complete the application form located at http://www.daltonstate.edu/china/. Print out the application and bring it to your program leader of to the Center for International Education to obtain a “Campus Faculty Representative” signature. The CIE will retain a copy of your application in order to enroll you in your classes.
- Mail your completed application, supporting information, and $250 deposit to-

Applying to a Program Sponsored by another USG School (UGA Pacific, KSU Ghana)
- Identify a program that offers 1000 and 2000 level academic credit in subject areas that are already offered through GPC; your GPC study abroad advisor can assist with this process.
- Review the eligibility requirements application deadlines. (Requirements vary depending on the program sponsor)
- Complete the study abroad program application and a transient application to the sponsoring school. Your GPC study abroad advisor can assist with this process.
- Complete a Request for Transient Permission form and submit to Enrollment and Registration on your home campus. Your GPC study abroad advisor must sign off on this form first.
- Provide the CIE with verification of your acceptance to the program.
- Provide the CIE with your certificate of completion upon your return.
- Request an official transcript (from the sponsoring school) to be sent to Georgia Perimeter College Enrollment and Registration (so that credit will show on your GPC transcript).
