Georgia Perimeter College invited more than 100 professionals in various fields for its annual Career Day: Meet, Explore, Learn. Michael Russell, president of HJ Russell & Company, was the keynote speaker for the event held at Clarkston Campus.
"Career Day is an excellent opportunity for business, non-profit, and government professionals to share their knowledge and expertise with GPC’s undergraduate students who are in the process of deciding which career track is best for them,” said Tracey Knight, GPC’s director of Strategic Partnerships for Access Programs.
Organizers scheduled 25 different career informational sessions, which featured more than 75 different companies and occupations. Fields included medicine, technology, business and fine arts. There were also sessions on emerging fields such as commercial business development, health informatics, homeland security and sustainability.
The program included three, one-hour sessions. In each session, professionals discussed what it takes to be successful in their respective positions. Topics ranged from required academic courses, skills and personal traits fundamental to the position, responsibilities and how individual performance helps an organization achieve its key business objectives.
"This is a wonderful opportunity for participants to meet and network with future employment prospects, explore the fields they are considering and to learn about the interview process through hands-on experience," Knight said.
GPC Career Exploration Day 2012 was presented by the Leadership Academy, Gateway To College Academy, DECA and GPC Student Government Association.
