Georgia Perimeter College Day of Service

In an effort to answer the call of the National Corporate of Community Service to celebrate the life and teaching of Dr Martin Luther King Jr., Georgia Perimeter College, the Atlanta CW 69 TV and the Georgia Personal Assistance Corps., an AmeriCorp program, is excited to tell you about the MLK Challenge!

The Challenge is an opportunity for our community to participate in service projects throughout metro Atlanta and Newton County. This year, we anticipate that more than 250 people will volunteer to participate in the Challenge and serve approximately seven different organizations. This is a wonderful opportunity to answer the national call for service.

All projects will be held on Monday, January 18, 2010 from 10:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. All volunteers are encouraged to attend a Pre-Service Pep Rally, starting at 9:00 a.m. on the Georgia Perimeter College Clarkston Campus College Center, located at 555 North Indian Creek Dr., Clarkston, GA 30021.

The first 250 people to register at http://spreadsheets.google.com/viewform?formkey=dFdiaVhHQklqQnBBNXpoVFFWTXBUTnc6MA  will receive a FREE T-shirt. All project confirmations will be sent via email by January 17, 2010. n.

Share Your Story

Take photos or videos of your service engagement (cameraphones ok) and we'll consider giving you a starring role in our upcoming video! Extra points awarded for clarity and focus--hey, isn't that what your professors always say?

Here's what you do: when you pick up that shovel or paint brush for your service project, have a friend or colleague snap photos or roll some video. If it's video, feel free to talk about why you're willing to give your time and energy to the project; what it means to you; why service is important to you. That kind of thing.

Next, email gpcmpr@gmail.com to tell us where we can find your photo or video--FaceBook, YouTube, Blip or Vimeo (for high-definition video), or wherever it is. Be sure to save a high-quality original for us, in case we call you later!
