Student Response System (Clickers)
One way to increase interaction in a face to face class is with a student response system. With a student response system, students respond to prompts and questions with a hand-held clicker that allows the instructor to record and display their response. Georgia Perimeter College partners with Turning Technologies for student response systems at Georgia Perimeter College.
The Turning Technologies clicker system includes four important components in its implementation at GPC. You will need the following four components to use clickers:
- A Turning Technologies USB Receiver - This receiver communicates with student clickers and connects to the instructor computer by USB.
- TurningPoint AnyWhere Software - This software allows you to poll students using a floating toolbar. It also allows you to track responses and create participant lists and question lists for assessment.
- Student Turning Technologies Student ResponseCards - These are the student clickers that students use to log their responses.
- A USB Drive - It is best to store the TurningPoint AnyWhere Software and all polling data on a USB drive so that you can easily move from classroom to classroom and always have your information with you.
Using The Student ResponseTools:
To get started, consider taking a training course on Classroom Polling with Clickers and refer to the training handout. The USB receiver can be obtained via a ServiceDesk Request. The software can be downloaded from the TurningTechnologies website. Make sure to include Student ResponseCards as part of your bookstore order at the beginning of the semester, if you plan on having your students purchase these ResponseCards.
