Grading and Assessments
There are a number of technology tools available to support the grading and assessment component of instruction. Below are some of the ways that GPC has invested in supporting grading and assessment with technology. The links provide additional information.
Plagiarism Detection
Turnitin.com is the plagiarism assessment tool at Georgia Perimeter College. It includes the GradeMark, online grading, and PeerMark, peer review, tools as part of the Turnitin suite.
Secure Online Testing
Respondus LockDown Browser is a tool that can be used in conjunction with iCollege assessments. Instructors can choose to require that an assessment in iCollege be taken only using the Respondus LockDown Browser-- not Internet Explorer, FireFox, or Safari. The Respondus LockDown Browser is another browser that the student must install. If the instructor requires the LockDown Browser for an assessment the student opens the LockDown Brower, logs into iCollege, and then clicks on the assessment. Once the assessment opens, the student cannot open any other software such as Word or another web browser.
Assessment Creation Tools
There are several tools that GPC faculty use for the creation of assessments. Respondus is a program that allows faculty to create and store question sets that can be used by a number of platforms including iCollege, paper-based tests, and the Student Response System. In addition to Respondus, GPC supports the use of publisher software and assessment makers.
Student Response Systems (Clickers)
One way to increase interactivity as well as conduct both formal and informal assessments is by using a Student Response System. GPC incorporates Turning Technologies Student Response System for use in face to face classrooms.
