Media Delivery
Many faculty and staff choose to deliver lectures, instruction, and information with multimedia. At GPC there are three primary options for delivering media to your audience. - Streaming– Files incrementally stream to the user and cannot be downloaded.
- Podcasting– Files are downloaded to the user’s computer and delivered episodically to iTunes. These files are then available for syncing to mobile devices.
- Traditional Web page – Files are stored in iCollege or a GPC website and are either viewed or downloaded depending on the published settings.
GPC offers both streaming media and podcasting services for the delivery of audio and/or video content. In addition, you can upload media files to a web server such as iCollege or to your department, faculty, or staff website. We strongly recommend that you read through this website and contact your Instructional Technologist to help you develop your audio/video delivery strategy.
Media Creation
The three primary methods of delivering media require you to develop media using a separate program. The creating media page outlines some of the tools available as standard and specialty software at Georgia Perimeter College.
Media Delivery Comparison
There are three primary options for delivering media files at GPC. You may want to use one particular service or multiple services depending on your needs. The chart below offers a detailed comparison of the three delivery options. Generally, the streaming server works best if you do not want your audience to be able to download the files, podcasting works best if there are a series of related files you would like for students to retain, and the web server is a more flexible delivery method for just about any file type.
