Determine if you're in over your head.  Take a look at the course requirements and your personal schedule – decide if you can handle the workload. Can you balance the course work with your family and career? Is the coursework at your level? Are you dedicated to finishing the online course?  Online students often enroll in online courses and drop out. Don't blemish your record with a "W", "WF" or  "F". 

Take the online readiness survey! This survey provides immediate feedback on your personal level of online readiness.

Purchase all required texts.  Don’t fall behind! Purchase all required materials from the online bookstore two weeks prior to the first day of class.
 

Update your computer.  Use the browser checker to make sure that your system is compatible.  You will access all of your online courses through iCollege, the learning management system for Georgia Perimeter College.  All students new to iCollege, should go to the iCollege website and complete steps 1 thru 3 for "New User".
 

Become familiar with your online class structure. Each online course has its own structure. Explore the course webpage before jumping into the lessons. Make sure you understand how you can access all of the necessary online class components (lessons, lectures, discussion boards, etc.).
 

Record tests and assignments on your calendar.  Your online instructor will not provide you with regular reminders.  It is your responsibility to review your syllabus and record all of the assignments, tests, essays, and projects on your personal calendar.
 

Establish a regular study time.  Instructors expect students to spend at least two to three hours of preparation time for every one hour of course credit taken.  For example, two 3-credit hour courses require at least 12 hours per week of preparation time (reading, researching, and completing assignments). 

Plan a regular scheduled study time for each week. Establish this routine early on, and you will stick to it. Preparation is the key to your academic success! Learn more about time management in OSSC 1001 and Student Success Backpack.
 

Participate.  Speaking up early will help you establish yourself as an active member of your online student community.
 

Connect with your online community.  Connect with fellow online students, as well as your Online Student Success Team, in  OSSC 1001.
