For Candace Lysiak being successful at Georgia Perimeter meant learning to juggle school and work with motherhood. This just makes her 3.84 GPA all the more impressive—and they haven’t been easy courses. The biology major has taken honors courses in World History and American Literature as part of the Decatur Campus Honors Program and is a member of Phi Theta Kappa, the international honors society.
“I’ve always loved the sciences,” says Candace who plans on attending Emory University next fall to complete a bachelor’s degree in pharmacy. “I chose GPC because I felt I had to start at a two-year college. I had been out of school for four years when I entered GPC.”
Candace was an “A” student in high school but “stepped out” to support her child. She came to GPC with only a GED but is now an honors student again and well on her way to continue her education at Emory University. Her goal is to complete a doctorate in pharmacy.
“At Georgia Perimeter, the classes were not too big and the Decatur Campus is not a huge campus,” Candace adds. “This was a good choice for me to get back on track. I can't explain how much it will mean to me for my son and my family to see me succeed, and for my son to see how much all of my hard work has paid off."
