When Kizmet Knox graduated from high school, she planned to put college off for a couple of years to work as a hair stylist. Then, life events forced her to wait until she was in her 30s to continue her education. Knox had her first baby by age 19. She then had a second child and also found herself raising her three younger sisters when her mother became ill.
After her mother died, Knox found her way to Georgia Perimeter College. She grew up near the Decatur Campus, so she always felt a connection to the school. It seemed natural that she would enroll in GPC.
Knox found GPC’s instructors and administrators to be very welcoming. “If you are scared or you are intimidated about coming to college, Georgia Perimeter puts all those fears to rest,” said Knox.
She served in GPC’s Student Government Association where she worked through budget hearings and planned countless campus events. Working with the SGA budget gave Knox the discipline and structure she needed to attend classes every day.
Knox graduated from GPC with an associate degree in communications. Thanks to GPC’s Transfer Admission Guarantees, Knox is pursuing her bachelor’s degree in speech communications at Georgia State University. After that, she plans to go to law school.
Oh, and Knox's younger sister is enrolled at GPC, too.
