RateMyProfessors.com has ranked Georgia Perimeter College math professor Dr. Marjorie “Margie” Lewkowicz as the top community college instructor in the nation. The Web site ranking is based on student ratings.
Lewkowicz says she is honored by the rating, but credits it to being part of the great GPC teaching team. “My colleagues are all caring and dedicated professionals who consistently put students first,” she says. “Their exemplary teaching and unwavering commitment to helping students reach their goals is a constant source of inspiration.”
“My belief has always been that every student CAN learn math, and that maintaining a positive attitude is the first step in understanding mathematics,” she continues. “I try to remind students daily that through continued effort, determination and perseverance, they can succeed in math.Working with the students is the high point of my day.I love teaching and learning, and my goal is to help students discover the joy, wonder, and excitement in learning and doing mathematics.”
RateMyProfessors.com is a review site, which allows college, university students and anonymous people to assign ratings to professors of American, Canadian, and British institutions. The site was originally launched as TeacherRatings.com in 1999 and converted to RateMyProfessors in 2001.
Raters rank the course and/or professor on a 1-5 scale in the several categories, including “helpfulness,” “clarity” and the degree of “textbook use” in the course. The rater also may include comments of up to 350 characters in length.
Among the positive comments on Lewkowicz: “She is such a great teacher. Very passionate about what she teaches…undoubtedly one of the best profs I’ve ever had…highly recommended.”
For the first time this year, the RateMyProfessors list includes university rankings, based on both professor and campus ratings. Campus ratings include such factors as reputation, location, career opportunities, school library, campus grounds and common areas, Internet speed on campus, campus food, clubs and events, social activities and whether or not students are happy with their decision to attend the school.
Georgia Perimeter ranked 18th among community colleges nationwide in the rankings. There are 1,167 community colleges in the United States, according the American Association of Community Colleges web site.
