Creating A Healthier Learning Environment
In March 2014, the Board of Regents of the University System of Georgia adopted a Tobacco and Smoke-Free Campus Policy to make USG institutions 100% tobacco and smoke-free effective October 1, 2014.
On April 10, 2014, Interim President Rob Watts appointed a Special College-Wide Tobacco and Smoke-Free Campus Task Force that was charged with creating an implementation plan to educate the college community about the new Board of Regents policy, to help promote cessation programs for those who wish to stop smoking, to develop appropriate signage for each campus, and to develop enforcement mechanisms. The Tobacco and Smoke-Free Campus Task Force presented their plan to the President's Policy Advisory Board on August 5, 2014 in preparation for the October 1, 2014 effective date.
Georgia Perimeter College will follow the lead of more than half of all USG institutions (as well as over 1,000 other colleges and universities) when the college becomes tobacco and smoke-free on October 1, 2014.
