    Middle Grades
    Choose 9 hours from the two content areas in which you intend to pursue certification.

    Physical Education
    BIOL 1611 & BIOL 1611L Human Anatomy & Physiology I (c) 4 hours
    BIOL 1612 & BIOL 1612L Human Anatomy & Physiology II 4 hours
    Any Physical Education course (d) 1-3 hours

    (a)     Early Childhood majors must take 6 hours of mathematics, and may substitute a three-hour mathematics course in Area F if 6 hours are not taken in Areas A or D.
                (b)    MATH 2030 is designed for teachers at the elementary school level. This course is not intended for those majoring in mathematics or for those intending to teach at the middle school or high school levels.
                 (c)    CHEM 1151 and CHEM 1151L should be taken in Area D.
                 (d)     Swimming proficiency is a requirement for Health and Physical Education. Students can satisfy this requirement by completing PHED 1051 or 1053, or by providing current certification in lifeguard training, or by successfully completing a departmental swimming proficiency test. In all cases, one activity PE class (one credit hour) other than PHED 1101 that has not been used to satisfy another curricular requirement is required for this program.

     
    Special Admission Requirements for Teacher Education Programs

    To be admitted into an undergraduate educator preparation program within the University System of Georgia:
    (1) Students must earn a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.5 on all attempted hours in the System core curriculum in Areas A-F.
    (2) Students must have passed the Regents' Test.
    (3) Students must have passed PRAXIS I.
    (4) Receiving institutions may establish higher admission requirements.
