|
Danny Blue, one of the most successful high school baseball coaches in Georgia, brings his knowledge and expertise to the Georgia Perimeter College baseball program in his first season as head coach. Blue finished his coaching career at Heritage High School in Rockdale County at the helm of the baseball program for 26 years and the football program for eight years. During his tenure, he won seven region championships and was named state Coach of the Year and seven-time region Coach of the Year. In 2006 Blue received the highest honor as a coach, being elected to the Georgia High School Dugout Club Hall of Fame. He is also a member of the Butts County Hall of Fame. "Danny is a perfect hire and who we need to bring the baseball program back to its glory days," said GPC athletic director Greg Ward. "He will do an outstanding job and we are very excited to have him." A standout defensive back in football and pitcher in baseball at the University of Chattanooga (now known as the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga), Blue garnered four letters at Chattanooga. Blue began his coaching career at Jackson High School, where he had a decorated prep career in basketball and baseball. He served as the head baseball coach for five years and assistant football coach for four years and head football coach for one year. Additionally, Blue served for 26 years as a Rockdale County Board of Education member. Blue says that for him the most important aspects of coaching are developing relationships with young men and watching them develop into mature adults and improve as players. Blue and his wife, Emily, reside in Jasper County and have two sons Dan and Adam. He enjoys playing golf and hunting in his spare time.
Stewart Bailey - Assistant Head Coach
After spending his childhood in Alexander City, Alabama, Bailey moved to Conyers, Georgia, where he graduated from Heritage High School in 1992. Playing baseball at Truett-McConnell College in Cleveland, Georgia, he garnered All-Conference recognition by hitting .405. He transferred to the University of West Georgia, where he was hitting .450 before a shoulder surgery ended his junior year. He graduated with a bachelor’s degree in health and physical education. Bailey began his coaching career as an assistant coach at Truett-McConnell from 1997 to 2001, serving as hitting instructor. The Danes posted a team batting average of more than .300 each year—with a high of .383 in 2000, which ranked No. 3 in the National Junior College Athletic Association. They finished 42-16 that year, ranked No. 19 nationally, and had the leading hitter in the nation, David Harwell from Conyers, at .496. While coaching at Truett-McConnell, Bailey obtained his master’s degree in physical education from North Georgia. Serving as head baseball coach at White County High School from 2002 to 2006, Bailey inherited a program that had won only nine games in the previous four seasons. In the first four years of his tenure, White County won 42 games, including a high of 14-10-1 in 2005. White County’s facilities expanded under Coach Bailey with the addition of a press box, equipment room and two-story concession stand. The school also installed a sprinkler system, sodded the field, added lights and built a state-of-the-art $300,000 indoor hitting facility. Bailey also coached for one year at Chestatee High School in Gainesville, Georgia. He welcomes the opportunity to coach again at the collegiate level. The construction of the new campus and the new multi-million dollar indoor facility are two major reasons he decided to join the Georgia Perimeter College Jaguars baseball coaching staff.
Thomas Briscoe - Assistant Baseball Coach
Briscoe then moved on to pitch and play shortstop for Gordon College in Barnesville, Georgia, in 2002-2003. After his freshman year, he was awarded a baseball scholarship to Albany State University, but an elbow injury ended his playing career before he could enroll. He then served as an assistant coach/pitching coach for Henderson Middle School in his hometown, where his pitchers had a team ERA of 0.73. The Tigers lost only lost one game en route to both the regular season and tournament championships, the first team in league history to accomplish this feat. While studying health and physical education at Valdosta State University, Briscoe coached the Valdosta Middle School team for one season. In January 2007 he returned home to coach at his alma mater, the Jackson High School Red Devils, serving under David Fletcher as JV/varsity assistant. At Georgia Perimeter College, Briscoe coaches the
Jaguar infielders and shares many of the recruiting responsibilities. He
also serves on the grounds crew and is responsible for maintaining the
baseball/softball complex. Joe Hughes - Strength and Conditioning Coach
