James Waldon
Head Coach

Beginning his tenth year as the head coach of the Georgia Perimeter College women’s basketball team, and his 26th year coaching overall, James Waldon looks to build on the success that landed the Lady Jaguars in the national tournament for the past three years.

Waldon heads into the 2007-2008 campaign with two returning players from last year’s GJCAA conference and a district championship squad that also holds the schools record with 41 consecutive conference wins including the conference tournament, 3 consecutive conference tournaments, 3 consecutive district titles and 3 consecutive national tournament appearances.

After graduating from Edward Waters College, Waldon accepted an assistant coaching position at Lake City Community College for the 1982-1983 season.  He returned to Edward Waters as the Men’s Basketball head coach for the next three years.  His coaching resume also includes stops at Southern Polytechnical College, head coach at Earl Paulk College and assistant coach for four seasons and head coach for two seasons with the Atlanta Trojans of the United States Basketball League.

In 2006 Waldon was selected as trials court coach for USA Basketball’s FIBA Americas U20 Championship for women team trials.

Waldon is married to the former Karen Slay of Brunswick, Georgia.  The Waldon’s have two children, James Jr. and Rachel, and reside in Conyers, Georgia.

 

Christina Shafer
Assistant Coach

Christina Shafer is in her ninth season as an assistant coach at Georgia Perimeter College.  Shafer brings more than 20 years of playing and coaching experience to the program, as well as the ability to relate to the players.

During her tenure at GPC, she has helped lead the Lady Jaguars to 3 consecutive conference titles, 3 consecutive district titles and 3 consecutive national tournament appearances.  Shafer was a four-year scholarship basketball player at Northern Iowa, where she also earned a Bachelor of Arts degree.

Shafer earned her masters and specialist degrees in educational leadership from Cambridge College in 2004.  She is a physical education and health specialist at Marbut Elementary Theme School and resides in Henry County.




Donald Moore, Jr.

Assistant Coach

Now in his fourth year as an assistant coach, Donald Moore has been instrumental in building the success of the women’s basketball program in the last three seasons. 

Moore, who played basketball at Dunwoody High School, helped his team win a state championship in 1995.  He played basketball two years in college and received his associate of arts degree from Pima Community College. 

Moore also holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in sociology from Northern Arizona University.  Outside of coaching, he is a math teacher at Stephenson Middle School in DeKalb County.  Moore resides in Stone Mountain, Georgia.
