Llorens receives MVP honors

Georgia Perimeter College’s Judit Llorens won the No. 1 singles flight and received Most Valuable Player honors at the Georgia Junior College Athletic Association Region XVII women’s tennis conference tournament in Tifton, Georgia.

“She is well deserving of this award for her accomplishments this season,” said GPC head coach Elaine Bryan.

Llorens defeated the No. 1 singles player from Young Harris, 6-3, 6-2 in the first round and cruised to a second round win over Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College 6-0, 6-0.

In doubles play, Llorens teamed up with Sandra Berrio in the No. 2 flight and finished 2-0, beating ABAC 6-4, 6-3 and Young Harris 6-4, 6-4.

Llorens will compete in the national tournament May 6-12, in Tucson, Arizona.

GPC nabs two consecutive victories

After falling to Gordon College 5-4 a week earlier, the Georgia Perimeter College women’s tennis team downed Young Harris, 5-4 at home and Oxford College @ Emory, 5-4 on the road last week. 

The Lady Jaguars (3-3) won three singles and two doubles matches against Young Harris.  Sandra Berrio won the No. 4 singles flight 6-2, 6-1, Francis Garcia won the No. 5 singles flight 6-4, 7-5 and Carla Perrotte won the No. 6 singles flight. Berrio teamed up with Judit Llorens in the No. 2 doubles flight, winning 8-4. Perrotte and Ashley Forrester won 8-2 in the No. 6 doubles flight. 

Llorens dominated her No. 1 singles flight against Oxford, 6-0, 6-0. Katelyn Holmes, Garcia and Perrotte also won their respective singles flight. In the No. 1 doubles flight, Kathryn Kohl and Holmes won 8-4 while Llorens and Berrio won the No. 2 doubles flight.

The Lady Jaguars are 2-2 in the GJCAA conference and will face Gordon College Tuesday, Apr. 11, on the road in a 3 p.m. match-up.

GPC women’s tennis opens 2006 season

The Georgia Perimeter College women’s tennis team opened the 2006 season Saturday with a new coach and a new place to call home.

Elaine Bryan, physical education professor at the Dunwoody campus, takes over as head coach of the program in her first coaching experience. Although, she enters a different environment for teaching, she is very familiar with the surroundings, also serving as advisor to student-athletes for many years.

“I am excited about the opportunity,” said Bryan. 

GPC’s Clarkston campus is the new home of the Lady Jaguars tennis team this season. The squad played there for many years before moving to the Lawrenceville campus at the Collins Hill Athletic Club last season.

The Lady Jaguars’ season began with losses against nationally ranked opponents Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College 8-1 and Florida Community College 9-0.

Judit Llorens and Sandra Berrio won their doubles match against ABAC 9-8.

Georgia Perimeter is 0-2 on the season and will travel to meet Young Harris College Friday, Feb.24, in a 3 p.m. match, before hosting its first home game Friday, Mar.3, 3 p.m. against Oxford College.
