Jaguars finish with good show in regional

The ascendant GPC women's tennis squad, which rolled into the Region XVII tournament off of a four-win week, continued its outstanding play by downing Young Harris College on Saturday morning in Tifton.

Then the Lady Jaguars ran smack into host Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College. GPC managed to take just one match off of the nation's fifth-ranked junior college team, which won the region title.

GPC winners against Young Harris were Yooha Nam, Bich Vi Truong and Maria Bagnati at Nos. 1-3 singles. Nam and Vi Truong paired up for the No. 1 doubles win, as did Bagnati and Alice Jackson at No. 2.

Bagnati was the sole GPC winner against ABAC, thus earning her a sport on the All-Region team.

The Jaguars finished the season with a record of 4-2.

GPC beats Central Alabama

            A memorable week for the Georgia Perimeter College women's tennis team was capped Saturday with a 5-1 home-courts win over Central Alabama Community College.

            The Lady Jaguars (4-2), who began the week 0-2, defeated all four opponents and are heading into the Region XVII tournament 2 p.m. today at Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College in Tifton, Ga. on a wave of momentum.

            The top three GPC singles players -- Yooha Nam, Maria Bagnati and Bich Vi Truong -- dropped just one combined point. Bagnati won 8-1, the others 8-0.

            The match was called early, when GPC clinched with its fifth point, so the visitors could return home.

Jaguars repeat yesterday’s win

            Another day, another perfect performance by the Georgia Perimeter College women's tennis team.

            Just 24 hours after sweeping Georgia Military College at home, the Lady Jaguars (3-2) repeated the act against Emory of Oxford on the road.

            Top singles players Yooha Nam and Maria Bagnati each triumphed 8-2 as the Lady Jaguars, winless entering the week, took their third match in four days.

GPC sweeps Bulldogs

            The Georgia Perimeter College women's tennis team tossed a shutout at Georgia Military College on Thursday, winning all nine matches at home.

            The Lady Jaguars (2-2) benefited from a dominating outing by No. 1 singles player Yooha Nam, who blanked her opponent 8-0. At No. 2 singles, Maria Bagnati triumphed 8-3.

            The Lady Jaguars celebrated in fine style their home debut. Their previous two scheduled home matches were rained out.

Lady Jaguars win singles, doubles

          After two defeats and three weather-related postponements, the GPC women's tennis team finally tasted victory on Tuesday.

          The Lady Jaguars came home from Young Harris College with a 5-4 victory as three players took care of business in singles and doubles.

           Yooha Nam and Bich Vi Truong, the Nos. 1 and 2 singles players, won their individual matches, then teamed up to triumph at No. 1 doubles.

Maria Bagnati took the No. 3 singles match before handling her No. 2 doubles duties with partner Alice Jackson.

The Lady Jaguars, in the midst of a busy week jammed with five matches, are home Thursday afternoon against Georgia Military College.

GPC opens with setbacks

The rain-delayed opener for the Georgia Perimeter College women's tennis team got the Lady Jaguars’ season off on the wrong foot, with defeats over the weekend in Tifton.

GPC fell by identical 8-1 scores to Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College on  Saturday on the winner’s home court and to Florida Community College  of Jacksonville on Saturday. Both ABAC and FCCJ are considered to be national contenders this season.

The Lady Jaguars, who had two rainouts in February, secured their lone points on a win by Vi Truong at No. 2 singles against ABAC and Maria Bagnati at No. 3 singles against FCCJ.

Truong came close Saturday, losing in a third set tiebreaker, and Yooha Nam pushed her opponent to the limit at No. 1 singles.

Another standout effort came from Yooha Nam and Truoung, who teamed up at No. 1 doubles both days and played competitively.

The Lady Jaguars confront Georgia Military College on March 27 in Milledgeville. The first home match will be against Spartanburg Junior College on April 1 at 1 p.m. on Georgia Perimeter’s Dunwoody Campus.

The Lady Jaguars’ home tennis matches are played at GPC’s Dunwoody Campus, 2101 Womack Road, Dunwoody, Ga., 30338.
