Step by Step with Ebrary

Ebrary, which is available through GALILEO, is GPC's newest source for electronic books. Most of the books are current and many are in subjects that students commonly study.

  1. To enter Ebrary, start with GALILEO http://www.galileo.usg.edu.

  2. Choose Databases A-Z. Click E.

  3. Scroll down to Ebrary and click on its title.

  4. To begin searching, type one or two key words that describe your topic in the light gray strip near the top of the window, and click on the Search ebrary button.

  5. Ebrary returns a list of links to full text books along with images of their covers. Ebrary groups titles in pages of twenty and places the most relevant (useful) titles at the top of the list.

  6. You can scroll among the books with the scroll bar or mouse wheel.

  7. You can move from one page to another by clicking on Previous or Next at the bottom of the window or by choosing a page number from the list at the bottom of the window.

  8. To open an ebook, simply click on its title.

  9. Select chapters in your ebook by clicking on links in its table of contents, the window on the right.

  10. Arrows in raised boxes You can also turn your ebook's individual pages by clicking on the black arrows in raised buttons at the top and bottom of the window.

  11. InfoTools To print portions of your ebook, click InfoTools and select Print from the drop down menu. You can print up to five pages at a time, but you can also make multiple print outs.

  12. To save portions of your ebook, select text, choose Copy from the InfoTools menu, and paste the selections to a Word or Wordpad document.

  13. Alternatively, you can save titles on an Ebrary book shelf. You can create a book shelf by opening a free account.

  14. Click Sign In or Book Shelf followed by Create Account to obtain a personal userid and password. You will need to be on campus to create an account for keeping a book shelf.

  15. To modify your search, click on the white Search tab at the top of the screen and enter a new search in the box in the gray strip.

  16. To leave Ebrary, click the Home icon on the top of your browser or close the browser tab or window.
