Library Policies

The following policies have been designed to meet the needs of Georgia Perimeter College students, faculty and staff:

  1. The Jim Cherry Learning Resources Center is designed to provide Georgia Perimeter College students, faculty and staff with a space for study, research and reading.


  2. Behavior which infringes on the rights of other users of the JCLRC, including excessively loud conversations and discussions or profane or abusive language will not be tolerated. Since talking on cell phones can be disruptive, their use is not allowed in the building.


  3. To preserve the integrity and cleanliness of the building, no food, drink or tobacco products are allowed.


  4. The taking, damaging, or malicious destruction of property is prohibited. Violation of this rule will result in a formal hearing before the Judiciary Committee (see the Georgia Perimeter College Student Handbook PDF ).


  5. Internet usage in support of research and educational objectives is acceptable. Access to the Internet does not imply automatic authorization to access any system connected to the internet. Pornography and content that is illegal in the state of Georgia are off limits.Unauthorized access to any internet-connected system is prohibited. Such unauthorized access is considered justification for termination of internet access privileges (see the Georgia Perimeter College Student Handbook PDF).


  6. Children under the age of sixteen must be supervised by a parent or adult guardian while visiting the JCLRC. Parents or adult guardians of children who are considered disruptive or unsupervised may be asked to remove children from the building (see the Georgia Perimeter College Administrative Procedures Manual, Section 405).

Persons who do not comply with these guidelines will be in violation of the Student Conduct Code and Conduct for Use of Georgia Perimeter College Computers and may face official college disciplinary sanction.

JCLRC Computer Use Policy

The library computers are located on the second floor of the Jim Cherry Learning Resources Center.

Priority use of the library computers is assigned in the following order:

  1. Georgia Perimeter College students, faculty, and staff


  2. All other University System of Georgia students, faculty, and staff


  3. The general public

Visitor use of library computers:

Visitors to the JCLRC who meet the following requirements may register at the Reference Desk for a one-day visitor account:

  • Must be sixteen years or older.


  • Must present a valid driver’s license, state ID or other government issued photo ID.

Visitor accounts are valid on designated visitor computers for the current day.

When others are waiting, visitors may use library computers for one hour.

When demand by highest priority users working on course-related projects is great, library staff reserves the right to restrict visitors’ use of library computers.

Library computer users are encouraged to:

  • Provide your own storage media on which to save your files, preferably with USB flash drives or writeable CDs.


  • Save your work frequently. Library staff is not responsible for lost work.


  • Use your JCard or a V-card to print. A V-card machine is located near the computers on the second floor of the JCLRC.

Library computer users must not:

  • Play online games.


  • Participate in online chat rooms.


  • Make any attempt to damage computer hardware or software.


  • Download and/or install any software or save any files to the computers’ hard drives.


  • Use any library computer for any illegal or criminal purpose.


  • Violate copyright laws or software licensing agreements in their use of library computers.


  • Engage in any activity that is deliberately and maliciously offensive, libelous, or slanderous.

Users not complying with these policies will be asked to leave the Library.
