Evaluating Websites

Select one of the categories below, and take a look at both of the websites in that category. Using the evaluation criteria we discussed, decide which site is more authoritative, and write down three reasons why.

Heart Disease

  1. Americans with Congenital Heart Disease
  2. The Heart Disease and Cardiology Home Page

To evaluate, answer these questions about each site:

  • What is the title of the site?
  • What person or organization maintains the site?
  • What kind of site is it? (Or, what is the domain--.com, .edu, .org . . .?)
  • Can you tell when the site was last updated?
  • Does the site have any ads?
  • What is the purpose of the site? To provide information? To make money?
  • Is the site free to use?
