    Use the following human filtered web directories and new search engines when you want to think outside the Google box.

    Bartleby (www.bartleby.com)
    Provides free online access to the full-text of classic works in literature, nonfiction, and reference. Examples of available texts include: Aesop’s Fables, The Sayings of Confucius, and, The Encyclopedia of World History.

    Clusty (clusty.com)
    Clusty is a clustering search engine that
    organizes search results into folders grouping similar items together. Clustering allows searchers to see relationships between search results, get an overview of themes related to the search,  and view similar results together for faster access.

    Internet Public Library (www.ipl.org)
    A project of the University of Michigan's School of Information, the Internet Public Library is compiled by librarians and library students to organize and describe information resources on the internet.

    Librarians Index To The Internet (lii.org)
    Librarians' Index to the Internet is a searchable, annotated subject directory of more than 14,000 Internet resources selected and evaluated by librarians for their usefulness to users of public libraries. LII also includes an option to sign up for a free weekly email newsletter about the most recently selected sites.

    Mooter (www.mooter.com):
    Mooter is a general search engine that categorizes your search results (also called “clustering”). The categories allow you locate pages more relevant to your search and help eliminate the overwhelming feeling of scrolling through thousands of web pages.

    Scirus (www.scirus.com)
    Focusing solely on web pages with scientific content, Scirus searches the world’s largest database of scientific, technical and medical journals, including MEDLINE citations, patents from the United States Patent and Trademark Office, and technical reports from NASA.

    Searchedu.com (www.searchedu.com):
    Use searchedu.com when you want to find information on the web from colleges and universities. This search engine returns only sites ending with .edu, delivers them up in a Google format, has a nice clean search screen, and contains links to other tools like dictionaries, currency converter, and calculators.
