Business and Humanities Learning Community in China
The China 2011 program offers a learning community that includes the classes Survey of Business Enterprise, and World Literature I. Participants of the program will spend 30 days in China, beginning with five days in Beijing, and the rest of the time spent in Shanghai.

Shanghai is the commercial center of China, and one of the most sophisticated business centers in the world. Participants will be able to visit and meet with numerous business enterprises, foreign, multi-national, domestic, state-owned enterprises, and government planning agencies. Students will benefit greatly from these experiential opportunities.

Students will also observe firsthand how China's important literary and philosophical traditions are reflected in the history, material culture, and contemporary thoughts and practices of China and its peoples. By visiting important sites in Chinese literary and philosophical history, students will gain understanding of the cultural circumstances of China's literary and cultural development, including its influence on neighboring or related cultures, such as those of Japan, Central and South Asia, and the Middle East.

Learning Communities (LC)

Learning Communities are courses with the same students enrolled in both, where there is generous cross-referencing between the professors, who will draw on their personal knowledge of China to expose students to material that crosses the boundaries between the two subjects. This learning community will be one of the required activities for students that wish to qualify for the summer 2011 trip to Shanghai.
