What are you doing to prepare? Georgia Perimeter College encourages you
to consider the International Certificate as you complete your core
curriculum. As you complete your Associate degree and move on to
university, your IC will demonstrate your commitment to knowing about
the world and the peoples of the world around you.
The IC is available to students in any
major and generally does not require any additional credit hours.
Courses are selected from the Core Curriculum. The additional
requirement is intense practical experience in one of the International
Activities recommended by the International Certificate advisor.
Just within the University System of
Georgia, you may want to go on for a Bachelor’s degree in such majors as
International Affairs, Modern or Foreign Languages, International
Business, International Management, African-American Studies,
International Trade, Comparative Studies, International Economics or
Global Studies. Or you may want to pursue a Certificate in Latin
American, Canadian, African or European Union Studies. For more
information about programs that focus on international studies see

Project SHINE is a national service-learning initiative that builds
partnerships among community colleges, universities and community-based
organizations to benefit older immigrants, refugees and college students.
SHINE links college students with older immigrants and refugees seeking
to learn English and navigate the complex path to U.S. citizenship. In
community centers, temples, churches, senior housing, and classrooms, students
tutor elders in English, helping them become more actively engaged in their
communities and teaching the U.S. history and civics needed to pass the
citizenship exam. For information about Project SHINE opportunities through GPC
please contact [gpcshine@gpc.edu].
Refugee Family Services operates from a refugee community center and an
activity center in close proximity to refugees who have resettled in Stone
Mountain, and Clarkston, Georgia, two cities in the metro Atlanta area. The
center is located at 5561-H Memorial Drive in Stone Mountain near where many
refugees have been resettled.
