    A GPC/DCSS Partnership

Gateway to College Academy is a scholarship program for DeKalb County School System (DCSS) students ages 16 through 20 with at least six high school units, who meet in-state eligibility requirements,
who have not been successful in high school but who wish to get back on track and earn a high school diploma.

Under the guidance of caring and committed instructors and resource specialists, students in the program learn new academic and personal skills during their first semester.  As part of a unique learning team, Gateway students have the support they need to complete a high school diploma and earn college credits at Georgia Perimeter College.

The Gateway to College Academy is changing lives.  Many Gateway to College graduates across the country have gone on to pursue four-year degrees and challenging careers.  In short, Gateway to College provides an opportunity for students to re-invent themselves for their future.

    Vision Statement

We believe that all students have the capacity to achieve in the collegiate environment, including students who have not experienced success in the traditional K - 12 system. We strive to:

    • Help students achieve academic success
    • Open students' eyes to post high school opportunities
    • Provide a transition to the post secondary environment
    • Support students during their enrollment

      Mission

The mission of the Gateway to College Academy is to recover high school dropouts ages 16 through 20 (grades 10-12) and re-channel them into the educational pipeline.  This mission is accomplished through collaboration between Georgia Perimeter College (GPC) and DeKalb County School System (DCSS).  The Academy offers students the option of completing high school while concurrently receiving credit toward an associate degree and provides counseling toward other alternative means of high school completion as needed.  Serving students who are eligible to attend DeKalb County High Schools, the Gateway to College Academy provides an alternative to the stigma of a GED and provides a true "gateway" for students into higher education.
