Welcome to the Sign
Language Interpreting Lab webpage!
Becky Thurman is our Lab
Supervisor. You will make all of your
Lab appointments with her. The best way to reach her is by e-mail:
bthurman@gpc.edu. Becky is our department secretary and most of
you have probably already spoken with her before you entered the Sign Language
Interpreting Program and the pre-requisite classes.
Christopher Merritt is a great part of our team here in the Sign Language Interpreting Program. His primary function is as a Lab technician but if you need to ask an "ASL-related" question - he will be more than glad to assist you. When he is in the Lab, the Open Lab schedule will say "ASL Tutor Available."
Todd Tabberer is the newest member of our team. Todd has worked in lab settings at University of Tennessee, Pellissippi State and Mercer University. We hope that he will enjoy his time with us here at GPC.

PLEASE FOLLOW THE FOLLOWING PROCEDURES FOR REQUESTING LAB APPOINTMENTS:
1. Requests for evening lab appointments must be e-mailed to Becky any time before 1:00 p.m. on the day you wish to do your recording. I will take your requests up to two weeks in advance of the time you wish to record.
2. Requests for daytime lab appointments must be e-mailed to Becky any time before 5:00 p.m. the day before you wish to do your recording. I will take requests up to two weeks in advance of the time you wish to record.
3. Saturday lab appointments should be made by 3:00 p.m. on Thursday as I am not in the office on Friday.
4. If you do not get your request in by the deadline, you are welcome to come and see if there are any available spaces. We do not guarantee space availability - it will be on a first-come, first-served basis so please make your appointments in advance.
5. Lab appointments for ASL 1, ASL 2, ASL 3, and ASL 4 students will be limited to 30 minutes. When your appointment time is finished, you may be asked to leave the computer station if there are other students waiting.
6. Lab appointments for 1st and 2nd year students will be also be limited to 30 minutes but you will be allowed to book two 30 minute sessions back-to-back. If there is a station available after your 60 minutes are completed, you can request a third 30 minute session. We will not book "standing" appointments for you. You need to be responsible to request times that you need. The reason for this change is that our history has been that most students who book "standing" appointments do not let us know when they will not be using their timeslot and this ties up a station that could have been given to someone who needed it.
7. When you e-mail/call me
to book an appointment, please give me the following information...
1- Your name
2- Your phone/e-mail in case I need to reach you
3- The day, date, and time you would like to book your
appointment. Please request times on the half-hour. (i.e. 5:00, 5:30)
4- 1st and 2nd year students, I will give you a one hour
appointment unless otherwise stated.
