Sign Language Interpreting Program Coordinator – Georgia Perimeter College

 

            


Christine Smith came to interpreting by way of being a teacher for deaf children.  She has a Bachelor’s in Deaf Education and a M.Ed. in Adult Education. She received her IC/TC certificate from RID (Registry of Interpreters for the Deaf) in 1981, and her OTC in 2001.  She taught part-time in the program since 1983.  Her specialty areas include performance interpreting and oral interpreting and program development, planning and evaluation. 

Christine has been working as a full-time coordinator and instructor here at Georgia Perimeter College since 1991. 
Christine is active in state and national interpreting organizations.  She is past president of the Georgia RID, of the Conference of Interpreter Trainers and Stagehands, Inc., a Performance Arts interpreting organization.  She has served as a member of the RID national committee for Professional Development, RID Local Test Administrator, co-chair of the program committee for the 2003 RID national conference, and Sponsor Administrator for Professional Development activities for interpreting for the college. 

Ms. Smith has presented workshops locally and at regional and national conferences.  Her specialties are Oral Transliterating, Program Design and Evaluation, and Effective Teaching.
